A gangster light-gun game that works with the controller but is clearly designed for Sega's Phaser gun. Short levels and a fun 1930s atmosphere. Dust off that Phaser if you still have one.

Collector interest

A light-gun shooting game where a detective takes out gangsters in cinematic settings, designed for the Master System's Light Phaser. Its desirability rests on its dependence on the light gun, tying it to the sought subset of aiming-peripheral games, and its North American distribution. Collectors seek it for its link to the Light Phaser and its singular crime-film mood.

Is Gangster Town still worth playing in 2026?

A light gun shooting game from Sega, Gangster Town puts the player in the shoes of a detective gunning down gangsters across scenes inspired by film noir, with the Light Phaser. The rhythm of the shootouts, the car chase phases and the parodic Prohibition era tone give a likeable character to an experience built for the peripheral. Without a gun, the interest drops sharply. For a retro light gun fan, someone curious about Sega accessories or a collector, the title keeps a direct arcade pleasure and a delightful mood.
