Story

"Anecdotal"
Everything is chiselled by hand: the fluidity of the fighters, the detail of the sets and the snap of the poses sign a masterpiece of pixel art. SNK reaches a rare expressiveness here, where every round looks like an animated page. This original release imposes a 2D elegance never equalled.
The definitive version gathers the series' best themes in CD arrangements of dazzling richness. From frenzied funk to more nostalgic melodies, each fighter regains their sublimated anthem. This sonic anthology, sumptuous and rousing, is a genuine treat for SNK fans.

"From the very first seconds"
A true dream version, this entry gathers a colossal roster, brings back vanished fighters and adds the legendary Geese as a hidden boss. Freer combos and a supercharged pace make it a peak of the pre-KOF saga. Spectacular, generous and burning with intensity, it offers one of the most gleeful 2D versus to pull out among friends.
SNK Japanese September 1994 edition of the Neo Geo CD port of Fatal Fury Special under Garou Densetsu Special, a beefed-up version of Fatal Fury 2 introducing playable Geese Howard and an expanded cast. The Japanese CD cartridge keeps all the original Japanese voices and the reorchestrated soundtrack. Particularly contested by SNK fighter enthusiasts for its pivot role toward KOF, it remains scarcer than the World Rev 1 version on the Japanese secondary market.
Better with friends
A 2D-fighting benchmark where the two-plane system lets you dodge into depth, adding a unique tactical dimension to the duels. The competition rewards mastery of spacing and sidesteps, in exchanges of great clarity. Rich and balanced, it suits long versus evenings where you test the vast roster and rivalry sharpens fight after fight.
Is Garou Densetsu Special ~ Fatal Fury Special still worth playing in 2026?
Fatal Fury Special is the completion of the original Garou Densetsu system, with an expanded roster that brings the Fatal Fury 2 bosses back and very successful balancing. The specials, chains and pacing read as a reference point for 1990s SNK fighters. The art direction stays gorgeous, the soundtrack especially memorable on CD. On Neo Geo CD, between-round waits are noticeable, but the score more than compensates. For 1990s SNK fans and 2D fighter veterans, still a major classic to know today.
