Collector interest

European PAL edition of the GBA Gradius, distributed under the Gradius Advance name and adapted for the continental market with a cover distinct from the US Galaxies version. Konami Europe carried over the regional differentiation tradition inherited from the Nemesis era, which makes it for Gradius collectors a fully separate variant. Konami Europe run was short, the cardboard box is fragile, and a PAL identified complete copy is clearly valued outside the US.

Memorable bosses

Faithful to the series' legacy, this stellar trip punctuates its zones with armored cores and fortresses to dismantle under a hail of fire. The power-up gauge, composed before the assault, makes every preparation a strategic choice. Readable yet formidable, these guardians and their final rematch corridor carry on the great tradition of the horizontal shooter with rigor.

Is Gradius Advance still worth playing in 2026?

Gradius Generation, released as Gradius Advance and then Gradius Galaxies depending on the region, stands as one of the most solid horizontal shooters on the GBA. The capsule library to invest into options, shield and speed reads cleanly despite the small resolution, and the stages mix nods to the saga with fresh layouts. The difficulty stays pure Gradius, meaning unforgiving. For fans of classic Konami shooting or anyone seeking a portable entry to the series, this remains a strong pick today.
