Activision and Neversoft western, an open world of cowboy missions and horse rides. Strong dusty mood, careful storyline and decent gunplay. Notable tech limits on GameCube and a fairly short campaign, but the setting works. A nice pick for genre fans.

A questionable morality

The game's Wild West is lived with a finger on the trigger: you settle every dispute by revolver, cash in bounties on the heads of strangers, and the lawless frontier excuses just about anything. The hero fancies himself an avenger, yet spends most of his time leaving a hefty pile of corpses in his wake, with the clear conscience of a man who drew second.

Is Gun still worth playing in 2026?

A western action-adventure from Neversoft, Gun follows Colton White's revenge across a dusk-lit frontier, mixing gunfights, horse rides and side missions in a semi-open world. The mature mood, blunt violence and freedom of tone stood out for the time, and the slow-motion shooting still thrills. The short length and a middling technical showing limit it against the genre's benchmarks. An endearing video game western, worth recommending to genre fans willing to overlook its flaws.
