Description
A Western Red Entertainment sequel released in 2004, subtitled "Overdose." The story picks up years after the first game, with two new playable characters alongside Grave. Even more arcade-leaning action, longer combos and Nightow's macabre opera tone still firmly in place.

Cel-shading by Yasuhiro Nightow, a stylish hero and choreographed gunfights: the action takes on the air of a jubilant anime. The bold outlines and sharp colours reinforce a constant graphic snap. This visual identity, dark and flamboyant, turns the carnage into pure spectacle.

Memorable bosses

Fleshing out the formula, this sequel hands three avengers an even flashier vendetta, punctuated by outsized guardians with the look of anime bosses. Chaining lengthy combos to pulverize these colossi rewards daring and style. More generous in variety and visual excess, it extends the brawny, choreographed pleasure of the original's duels.

Is Gungrave - Overdose still worth playing in 2026?

A sequel to Red Entertainment's third person shoot 'em up, Gungrave Overdose enriches the formula with three playable characters of distinct styles, deeper combos and a still stylish staging by Yasuhiro Nightow. The snappy pace, the generosity of the weapons and the pure arcade action win over fans of heavy calibre venting. The repetition and a modest production weigh on it. A title for fans of stylish shooting and the Nightow aesthetic after supercharged action.
