Is Heisei Shin Onigashima - Zenpen still worth playing in 2026?

The first half of Nintendo's two-part tale, Heisei Shin Onigashima Zenpen blends the stories of Momotaro, Kaguya-hime and Urashima Taro around the adventures of Donbe and Hikari. The illustrated visual narration, punctuated by choices, unfolds a delicate Japanese folklore tale in a carefully crafted atmosphere. With little ludic challenge, it is worth it for the writing and mood, best reserved for visual novel fans willing to use a translation. A lovely gateway to a little-known side of Nintendo storytelling.
