The Japanese edition puts the magic box at the centre of its presentation, with an illustrated title screen and introduction cards drawn like album pages. In play, the spell cards the two heroes cast are shown at large scale and briefly interrupt the action to display their illustration.
The accompaniment stays in a storybook register, but the writing pushes the middle voices and keeps the bass discreet, giving a brighter, lighter sound. The themes are short, often built on two answering phrases, and the moments of magic trigger brief rising figures as punctuation.
