Virgin applies to the Disney film the same method as to its other adaptations: supple outlines, animation broken into many frames, foliage drawn across several planes to create canopy depth. Mowgli climbs, swings and slides with remarkable continuity of movement, amid greens worked with particular care.
Tommy Tallarico rearranges the feature's tunes while keeping their swing, with snapping brass and jungle percussion pushed well forward. The themes transform by level, heavier in the stone ruins, lighter in the foliage, and the FM chip lends itself surprisingly well to this jazz repertoire.
The Jungle Book PAL is the European edition of the Virgin/Eurocom game adapted from the Disney film, distributed by Virgin on Megadrive. Its collector value comes from the widely recognized quality of the Eurocom port and from the fact that the Disney Jungle Book franchise had few 16-bit adaptations as technically accomplished.
