Taito underwater shooter with a classic 2D aesthetic and sustained challenge. Gameplay is sharp and the arcade conversion faithful. A good choice for fans of aquatic-themed shmups.

Is Kaitei Daisensou still worth playing in 2026?

Kaitei Daisensou is the Japanese version of In the Hunt, Irem's horizontal submarine shoot'em up, in which you pilot a combat submarine against enemy fleets in a post-apocalyptic universe with sumptuous pixel art. The content, the measured pace proper to submarine combat, the particular inertia and the heavy atmosphere are identical to the Western release, by the creators of Metal Slug. The high difficulty calls for perseverance. For fans of atypical retro horizontal shooters and collectors of the Japanese edition, it is a gem with a strong identity.
