Original Japanese edition of the second GBA Klonoa, released in July 2002 under the Kaze no Klonoa G2 Dream Champ Tournament title, the first sub series iteration with a structured tournament mode. Namco rigid case and a dedicated Japanese obi, cover art in warmer colours than the Western Klonoa 2 Dream Champ version. Japan run was short, complete with obi sought after by Namco enthusiasts mapping the portable Klonoa branch before the franchise went dormant.

An underrated gem

This portable sequel refines the formula and adds rhythmic competition plus new characters, all wrapped in the same lovingly polished package. Its Japan-only status kept it from Western players for far too long. Denser and more generous, it'll delight anyone after a clever platformer unjustly passed over in silence.

Is Kaze no Klonoa G2 - Dream Champ Tournament still worth playing in 2026?

Dream Champ Tournament picks up the first GBA Klonoa and extends the formula with a tournament setting, more stages, fresh mechanics and even sharper visual work on the pseudo 2.5D. The capture and throw core stays intact, yet the competitive structure and the tiers to unlock give every session new energy. The Namco pixel art shines especially well, the soundtrack too. For fans of the first and lovers of polished puzzle platforming, this is a sequel more ambitious than it looks.
