Story turn with NESTS arc, Striker system and modernised look. Bold and sometimes divisive but full of ideas. A welcome fresh breeze on the series.

SNK Japanese April 2000 edition of the Neo Geo CD port of KOF '99 Millennium Battle, the last KOF released on the CD format and one of the last SNK Neo Geo CD titles before the format's commercial shutdown. The Japanese CD cartridge is extremely rare due to a very short run at the very end of the cycle, when SNK was already in serious difficulty. It is a major target for Neo Geo CD completionists wanting to close the KOF chronology on the format.

Is King of Fighters '99, The ~ The King of Fighters '99 - Millennium Battle still worth playing in 2026?

King of Fighters '99 confirms SNK's mastery of its three-on-three engine. The Striker system arrives, the Orochi thread gives way to NESTS, a modernised look and fresh wind for an already abundant saga. On Neo Geo CD, between-match and between-round loading is the classic trade-off, but the CD soundtrack genuinely lifts the atmosphere. For 2D fighter veterans and SNK golden-age fans, the cart still holds defensible weight today, especially in local multiplayer. An essential step in a decade of 2D fighting with no real equivalent.
