Story
★★★★★
"Classic"
Pastel colours of rare richness, all-round sprites and settings of great gentleness: the series unfurls a warm enchantment pushing the console to its limits. The tenderness of the hues and Kirby's expressiveness overflow with charm. This art direction, polished and joyful, illustrates HAL's know-how.
Generous and varied, the soundtrack re-orchestrates the series' great themes with brio while piling up new melodies, from the famous "Gourmet Race" to epic boss fights. Each mini-game deploys its own sonic colour. This exceptional musical richness makes this compilation a peak of the SNES.
Gameplay
"Masterful"
Eight modes gathered on a single cartridge, from timed sprints to boss rush, make up a platform anthology of remarkable generosity. The power-copying, richer than ever, and two-player co-op keep things fresh. Under its European title, this playful compilation has lost none of its balance or its immediate appeal.
Fun
"From the very first seconds"
Gathering a handful of varied adventures and mini-games on a single cartridge is the generous promise of this Kirby entry. Inhaling, copying powers, calling an ally to help: the formula blossoms with rare richness. The co-op mode and the variety of modes grip for hours. Gentle, clever and bursting with ideas, a peak of the series, accessible to all.
Addictiveness
"Obsessive"
Inhaling an enemy, stealing its power and then chaining through several distinct adventures sets up a generous compilation that constantly revives the urge to try something else. Each mode has its own goal, secrets and completion challenge, more than enough to keep coming back for a long time. Easy to pick up, sometimes too easy, this concentrate of Kirby remains an immediate and lasting pleasure.

Lifespan
"Massive"
Stacking eight distinct Kirby adventures into one box effectively stacks their play times too: between Spring Breeze, Gourmet Race, the Milky Way Wishes epic and the boss arena, each mode demands its own learning curve before you master it. Two-player co-op, collecting copy abilities and chasing 100 % keep the urge to finish everything alive, which is why this European release remains as rich a reference as its American cousin.
Complete: box, manual and disc/cart very clean. Lightly handled.

The European PAL SNES edition of Kirby Super Star rebadged 'Fun Pak' for the PAL market, with a late release and very short print. The PAL cart is noticeably rarer than the US and Japanese versions, and PAL boxed CIB in the original cardboard box has become one of the European Kirby grails. The cote climbs hard, sustained by real physical scarcity and by the PAL-exclusive 'Fun Pak' branding that documents a localisation particularity.
Better with friends
The European version of the generous adventure compilation, where a second player lends a hand as a companion born from an absorbed enemy. The co-op is tender and free of score stakes, designed to support a loved one rather than compete. Colorful and varied in its sub-games, it's savored two-player at any age and turns a shared session into a complicit stroll you happily extend.
Is Kirby's Fun Pak still worth playing in 2026?
Hoshi no Kirby Super Deluxe, known as Kirby Super Star and Kirby's Fun Pak in the West, is probably HAL Laboratory's peak on the Super Famicom. The cartridge gathers seven different mini adventures, namely a treasure rush, a boss rush duel, a helicopter mode and several platformers, all crossable in local two player co op. The absorbed abilities finally offer rich movesets. The tech is gorgeous. For Kirby lovers or anyone after a varied, accessible 16 bit platformer, without hesitation the priority cartridge.
