The Western release of Klonoa, a 2.5D platformer turned cult classic for its dreamlike art direction and shattering ending. Its PAL and American runs, kept modest, now struggle to meet a loyal demand, which has driven its value up over the years. Its desirability rests on this recognized quality paired with a concrete scarcity on the Western market.

An underrated gem

A 2.5D platforming masterpiece that few bought at launch, it enchants with its fairy-tale settings, its long-eared hero and an ending of emotional intensity rare in the genre. Poorly sold despite the praise, it remained cult yet confidential. Its poetry and flawless handling make it a must for anyone who loves the tender platformer.

Is Klonoa - Door to Phantomile still worth playing in 2026?

Klonoa - Door to Phantomile, known as Kaze no Klonoa in Japan, is an absolute 2.5D platformer masterpiece by Namco. Surprisingly emotional narration, ingenious enemy-grab-and-throw gameplay and sublime art direction make for an experience of rare tenderness. The ending remains one of PS1's most moving, Kanako Kakino's score sticky. Klonoa and Huepow etch their place in memory. An absolute peak today.
