This entry takes the brick a step further: the characters finally speak. Gotham opens as a fully explorable city, the first of its kind, where the figures roam, chatter and comment, and the DC pantheon swells the cast, Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman rendered in molded pieces. The art direction leaves the simple linear level for a living plastic metropolis, peopled with voiced heroes.
The soundtrack brings out the great superhero movie themes. Danny Elfman's march for the bat-man and the symphonic theme of the man of steel accompany the figures with total seriousness, while the arrival of voice acting changes the comedy: the heroes now comment on their own stunts. The contrast between orchestral solemnity and spoken gags gives the game a new humor, verbal as much as musical.

A sequel from Traveller's Tales, LEGO Batman 2 DC Super Heroes considerably widens the formula by opening an open world Gotham and introducing spoken dialogue, a first for the series. The repetitiveness of the collectibles and a few technical issues weigh. An action game to recommend for DC fans and lovers of LEGO games to share with family, more generous than the first.
