Attention here goes to the ship itself: visible armaments that change shape with the equipped weapon, pivoting fins, thruster trails stretched during accelerations. The enemies come in carefully coloured formations that stay readable against heavily loaded backgrounds, never blurring the read.
Toshiharu Yamanishi draws surprisingly convincing electric guitar tones from the FM chip, with solos that climb across the whole length of a stage. The tempo stays driving throughout, but the calm passages carve out breathing room before the confrontations. One of the most cited demonstrations of the console's sound capabilities.
