EA adaptation of the Return of the King film, German release. Beefy beat 'em up replaying the big battles, heroic roster and very satisfying local co-op. Staging stays faithful to the film, runtime is decent. Arguably the best Lord of the Rings tie-in of the era.

The game leans on Howard Shore's iconic themes for The Return of the King: soaring choirs, heroic brass and Middle-earth motifs accompany every battle. The music instantly summons the cinematic epic, carrying the assaults of Helm's Deep or Minas Tirith with grandeur. An epic accompaniment, faithful to the film's sonic setting.
Lord of the Rings Ou no Kikan is the original Japanese edition of The Return of the King, distributed by EA Japan. Its collector value comes from the rarity of the LotR segment on GameCube in Japan and from the fact that the Japanese version retains the film's original visual identity with full localization.

A direct adaptation of Peter Jackson's final film, The Return of the King delivers two player cooperative action where you play the iconic heroes of the Fellowship across key scenes. The combat system stays simple but nervy, the unlockable characters like Gandalf or Aragorn and the faithfulness to film imagery still charm today. Visually dated by now, the title keeps a real reserve of charm for fans of the cinema trilogy and for lovers of old school cooperative beat them ups with a strong licence today still.
