Collector interest

Australian pressing of Star Fox 64, distributed by Mattel Interactive under Nintendo Australia license in July 1997 under the local Lylat Wars name. The AU cartridge ships with the Nintendo Rumble Pak as an original bundle, the first commercial use of the peripheral in Oceania. Its rarity rests on a short Australian run and on the rare preservation of the period Rumble Pak in good condition inside the box. A specific target for southern-hemisphere Star Fox collectors.

Memorable bosses

At the end of frantic space corridors loom mechanical colossi and the prickly rivalry of the Star Wolf squadron, whose every interception reignites the dogfight. The final boss, Andross, reveals a giant face with two-stage attacks. Memorable voices, branching paths and razor-timed clashes drive battles that defined the rail shooter in three dimensions.

Is Lylat Wars still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 1997 on Nintendo 64 and known in Europe as Lylat Wars, Nintendo's project is a space rail shooter of jubilant intensity, where you pilot the Arwing of the Star Fox squadron through nervous and branching levels. The branching structure, which opens paths according to performance, and the spectacular boss fights offer lasting replay value through scoring. The flavourful team dialogue and the force feedback of the Rumble Pak, bundled with the game, marked the era. The brevity of the campaign shows. A classic of the rail shooter, recommended for fans of arcade action and of space piloting.
