The first Madden on N64, already a reference point for NFL fans. Every franchise licensed, deep playbooks and meaty season modes. The engine is a touch stiff and the animations look their age, but the tactical depth and gridiron feel are already firmly in place.

Is Madden Football 64 still worth playing in 2026?

The first Madden on Nintendo 64, Madden Football 64 brings the officially NFL licensed American football simulation to the console, with faithful teams, players and playbooks. Solid for a launch title, it offers readable matches and a good gameplay base, but suffers from a plain presentation and options behind the competing versions. The genre has long been surpassed. For someone nostalgic for 64 bit American football, a Madden series fan or a curious player, the title keeps an interest that is mostly historical and documentary.
