Madden 2001 on N64, very much in line with its predecessor. Updated roster, more developed contract management and slightly more believable on-field physics. The machine starts showing its limits next to the emerging PS2 versions, but the content and tactical depth remain undeniably solid.

Is Madden NFL 2001 still worth playing in 2026?

The penultimate Madden on Nintendo 64, Madden NFL 2001 updates rosters and presentation for the 2000-2001 season and polishes the series' playability, without upending a now well honed formula. The fidelity to NFL rules, the depth of the franchise mode and the pleasure of the matches stay appreciable for the time, but the title arrives on an end of life machine against 128 bit competitors. For someone nostalgic for 64 bit American football, a Madden series fan or a curious player, the title keeps an interest that is mostly recreational and historical.
