Story
★★★★★
"Anecdotal"
Data East draws on tarot iconography to populate the screen: the Magician, Strength, the Star and their companions become vivid characters, drawn large and animated continuously at the sides of the board. The contrast between these symbol-laden figures and the geometric simplicity of the stacked bubbles structures the whole image.
The themes follow the speed of execution rather than any mood: short, heavily rhythmic loops, bright synthetic timbres, motifs that come round quickly enough to stick after a few games. Each opponent arrives with a musical colour of their own, and the overall tempo stays taut from start to finish, matching a game that never lets you breathe.

Fun
"From the very first seconds"
The sequel sharpens the frenzy by adding characters with distinct powers and more varied modes that spice up the versus. Pulling and releasing balls at full speed to flood your opponent delivers an instant, exhilarating satisfaction. Richer and just as snappy, this entry pushes the lightning mechanic a notch further, ideal for frantic duels.
Addictiveness
"Obsessive"
Grabbing a column of balls and releasing it to align the colors and set off sweeping cascades refines the original's chaining pleasure with an even brisker pace. Characters with varied gauges and the duels revive the urge to play again. The formula stays close, but its heightened snappiness and perfect readability keep a tenacious pull.
Complete: box, manual and disc/cart very clean. Lightly handled.

Is Magical Drop 2 still worth playing in 2026?
A sequel from Data East, Magical Drop 2 refines the frantic formula of the first with an enlarged roster of Tarot characters, new modes and a polished balance. The pulling and chain bubble shooting mechanic gains strategic richness while keeping its explosive immediacy, especially fearsome in versus. The colourful art direction and the frantic pace stay a model of effectiveness. Often considered the reference version, it will delight fans. For a fan of competitive puzzling or of the series, the title keeps a preserved snappiness and replayability.
