The series reaches its peak in the sheer number of figures on screen and the finesse of their animation: two dozen characters drawn from the arcana, each with idle, dismay and triumph poses drawn separately. The backdrops gain depth and variety, and the interface slims down to leave all the room to this permanent theatre.
The soundtrack widens the series palette towards more elaborate arrangements: synthetic brass, swaying bass lines, themes that genuinely vary from one character to the next instead of settling for a change of tempo. The danger-driven acceleration remains, but it now rests on pieces rich enough to carry long sessions.

Japan exclusive Saturn edition of Magical Drop III Toretate Zoukan-gou, distributed by Data East in June 1999 with the 2M tag, an augmented version of the Data East puzzler integrating a Toretate Zoukan-gou mode with additional content absent from the standard version. Data East Japan run was short, jewel case with intact obi, and the later disappearance of Data East in 2003 gave a testamentary dimension to its last Saturn titles. Complete with obi clearly valued among Data East completists.
