Peak of the Magical Drop series, with full roster, varied modes and polished gameplay. Fluid animation, distinctive characters, formidably fun versus. One of Saturn's best puzzle games, still very pleasant to play today.

Collector interest

Japan exclusive Saturn edition of Magical Drop III Toretate Zoukan-gou, distributed by Data East in June 1999 with the 2M tag, an augmented version of the Data East puzzler integrating a Toretate Zoukan-gou mode with additional content absent from the standard version. Data East Japan run was short, jewel case with intact obi, and the later disappearance of Data East in 2003 gave a testamentary dimension to its last Saturn titles. Complete with obi clearly valued among Data East completists.

Better with friends

A lightning puzzler where you pull and stack colored beads to bury your opponent under an avalanche, in a duel of wild liveliness. The competition rewards quick hands and chain anticipation, with every second able to swing it all. Immediate and snappy, it puts everyone on equal footing from the first game and triggers shouts and fits of laughter by the bucketload.

Is Magical Drop III - Toretate Zoukan-gou! still worth playing in 2026?

A competitive puzzle by Data East, Magical Drop III offers a puzzle of coloured bead chains where you pull beads up to eliminate them in alignments. The vibrant manga art direction, absolutely addictive two player versus mode and deep combo system make it a competitive puzzle reference on Saturn. For anyone fond of original competitive puzzles or seeking an excellent cooperative and competitive game on the Sega console, a warm recommendation still valid today without any hesitation truly here indeed for any newcomer.
