An underrated gem

The first game from the studio behind Mother 3, this RPG blends tender writing, an elemental system, and a cast brimming with summery charm. Never officially translated, it remained a secret for in-the-know fans. Its unique atmosphere and gentleness make it a precious find for anyone who loves Japanese RPGs off the beaten path.

Is Magical Vacation still worth playing in 2026?

Magical Vacation is a JRPG from Brownie Brown, a studio founded by former Square staff, in which eight pupils of a magic school are flung into a parallel world and must survive while trying to return home. The elemental magic system, dreamlike mood and warm art direction make it a singular adventure, heir to the spirit of Seiken Densetsu. Kept exclusive to Japan, it speaks to fans of atypical JRPGs and fairy-tale worlds, ready to deal with the language barrier to discover a little-known title.
