European Assault widens the licence's frame with more open levels, a squad system and an OSS imposing secondary objectives on large maps. The formula gains freedom without dropping the scripted sweep proper to the series, despite uneven artificial intelligence and visible ageing. The Second World War mood stays gripping. For a fan of the licence or a lover of historical shooters from that era, the title keeps an honest interest to rediscover.
