The art direction unearths the human past of the cursed land. Everywhere surface the ruins of a swallowed kingdom, collapsed ramparts, beheaded statues, fortresses retaken by the orcs who graft their scaffolds and trophies onto them. Under the soot skies, each monument tells of a defeated civilization. The setting is not a desert of evil but an inhabited field of ruins, where the shadow has settled into other people's stones.
The real sonic spectacle comes from the orc voices. Each captain bellows his taunts on arrival, brags of his feats, mocks your past defeats with lines that remember your encounters, and the tribes' rallying cries roll from camp to camp. This guttural banter, written line by line for dozens of chiefs, serves as the game's chorus and gives the enemy army a spoken personality.
The story unearths the fault of a legendary craftsman. The wraith accompanying the hero gradually recovers his memory: he was Celebrimbor, the elven smith who shaped the rings of power alongside Sauron before being betrayed by his own work. Each reclaimed memory lights up this founding guilt, and the campaign becomes the intimate trial of a creator caught up by what he forged, at the very origins of the whole legend.

Is Middle-Earth - Shadow of Mordor still worth playing in 2026?
An open world action game from Monolith, Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor sends a ranger bound to an elf wraith to hunt Sauron's armies, with a Nemesis system generating unique enemies that remember their clashes with the player. The fluid combat inherited from Arkham, the climbing and above all the Nemesis mechanic make it a striking success. The repetition of activities and a secondary story weigh a little. An excellent adventure for fans of open world action and the Tolkien world.
