Capcom entirely redraws its arcade fighters in short, round proportions, big head and reduced body, allowing larger sprites and visible expressions. The urban scenery keeps its original division, street, subway, factory, but adopts brighter colours suited to this new register.
Adapting Final Fight in super-deformed form, the game accompanies its punches with a nervy, rousing chiptune signed by Capcom. The punchy urban themes stick to the rhythm of the street fights with a delightful energy. This sonic vitality, faithful to the beat-'em-up spirit, gives this NES gem all its charm.

Reinventing the cult beat-'em-up in a cute, cartoonish version was a crazy idea, and the result is a treat: devastating blows, colourful enemies and progression dotted with level-ups. The joy of sweeping a whole street stays intact, elevated by an adorable style. Snappy, generous and full of charm, an irresistible release.
European PAL pressing of this chibi reimagining of Final Fight, distributed at the very end of the NES's life on the continent and so in particularly reduced quantity. The European version ranks among the hardest late Capcom NES titles to find complete in box, the PAL market having already largely shifted to the next generation. Its desirability rests on this end-of-cycle shortage, markedly sharper than on the American run.
An underrated gem
Reworking Final Fight in a super-deformed style might have seemed a gimmick; it's actually one of the most complete beat'em ups on the NES, with level-ups and special moves.
