An underrated gem

It's hard to believe Shigeru Miyamoto co-created this little gem of underground logic, so rarely is it mentioned. Muddy the mole digs, pushes barrels and shuttles between surface and basement in puzzles of fearsome finesse. Released at the very end of the console's life, it's made for fans of clever puzzles and retro charm.

Is Moguranya still worth playing in 2026?

Moguranya, known in the West as Mole Mania, is a puzzle game crafted under Shigeru Miyamoto's guidance, in which a mole digs underground to outwit traps and foes. Its back-and-forth between surface and underground stays surprisingly fresh and offers perfectly measured riddles. The monochrome presentation has aged gracefully, carried by clever level design. For fans of ingenious puzzle games and overlooked Game Boy gems, it is a genuine success worth rediscovering.
