Monster Farm 2 considerably enriches its predecessor with more monster types, deeper tournament system and more content. CD generation remains brilliant. Considered the finest series entry by many, it's a niche title that well deserves its reputation.

Collector interest

The Japanese version of Monster Rancher 2, under the name Monster Farm 2, a creature-raising game whose signature concept generates monsters by reading any audio CDs. This native edition, predating the Western release, appeals to those wanting the original pressing of a monster-raising pillar. Its interest lies in this local run and the series' aura rather than great scarcity.

A questionable morality

Conjuring a monster out of a disc feels like a magic trick, but what follows is mostly making it slog through training, scolding it and marching it into battle before it ages and dies. You play the devoted breeder while working each beast to the bone, convinced you're giving it a fine life as a duly profitable competitor.

Is Monster Farm 2 still worth playing in 2026?

Monster Rancher 2, known as Monster Farm 2 in Japan, considerably enriches its predecessor with more monster types, a deeper tournament system and more content. The CD-audio monster generation remains the main attraction, letting players discover new creatures by inserting their favourite CDs. A cult classic to absolutely bring out today.
