The extended edition populates its maps with secondary life: herbivores grazing then bolting, insects taking off as you pass, fish visible under the surface, and above all a Felyne companion trotting, sitting and fidgeting in shot. The ground stops being scenery and becomes an inhabited ecosystem.
The higher-rank quests get themes larger than the rest: mixed choir, full orchestra and low bells turn a confrontation into a ceremony. The device works because it stays rare, and only a handful of creatures trigger that swelling of forces.
