The short shorts, the haircuts and the courtside advertising follow the same archaeology, so each challenge feels like a recovered tape rather than a reconstructed game.
The real instrument is the hardwood: sneaker squeaks that change with the plant of a foot, the ball struck on the floor with a bounce that rings differently near the hoop or at center court, the net snapping. Visual Concepts records these sounds with studio precision, and in the historic challenges the arena sounds drier, as if captured by the ambience mics of an old broadcast.
