The twelfth volume digs up Samurai Spirits Tenkaichi Kenkakuden, the series' sixth and final sword game. Its singularity is a teeming cast, over sixty swordfighters drawn from the whole history of the franchise, gathered for a single tournament, so that sprites of different generations and styles share the screen. This grand reunion closes SNK's samurai branch in style.
A late 2008 release, this edition benefits from more careful production than the older entries. The sword's traditional palette, drums and plucked strings, gains a fuller mix and cleaner samples, without losing any of its martial stiffness. The sound of the katana duel, once constrained by arcade hardware, at last unfolds in a clarity that does justice to its ritual gravity.
