Description
A Japanese SNK Playmore compilation released in 2007, the fifth volume of the collection. The first installment of the Garou Densetsu Battle Archives, gathering the first three Garou Densetsu games (Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury Special). A founding stone of modern 2D fighting and the start of the Terry Bogard / Geese Howard rivalry.
This fifth volume goes back to the origins, the first three Garou Densetsu, where the founding rivalry between Terry Bogard and Geese Howard is born and the series' identity takes shape. To watch the trilogy scroll by is to witness the gradual establishment of Southtown, its streets and its figures, each entry fleshing out an urban set and a gallery of heroes who would become pillars of the genre.
On the music side, the trilogy lets you hear the birth of leitmotifs meant to last. From these first entries, each fighter gets a theme, a motif attached to Terry, Andy or Geese that later games would take up for decades. To hear these original versions is to find the source of melodies that became emblematic of SNK fighting, in their rawest, most founding form.

Is NeoGeo Online Collection Vol. 5 - Garou Densetsu Battle Archives 1 still worth playing in 2026?
A Japanese reissue from SNK Playmore, this NeoGeo Online Collection volume gathers the early Garou Densetsu, known in the West as Fatal Fury, pioneers of the fighting game with their depth line system allowing you to dodge into the background. The historical value, the expressive pixel art and the genre legacy make it a precious compilation. The stiffness of these old titles and the Japan exclusivity limit access. A historic 2D fighter for fans of SNK fighting and genre history.
