Board play becomes a visual motif of its own. Two players pin against the railing, lean, jostle to wrench the puck stuck under the skates, bodies pressed and sticks tangled in a grapple the camera follows up close. The art direction shifts attention from center ice to its edges, where hockey is won in the war of attrition against the wall.
The sonic ritual of the horn and the organ structures the game. After every goal, the arena horn blares a long blast, at once relayed by the organ launching a rousing motif taken up in chorus by the stands, while a house jingle celebrates the home team. These markers, proper to North American hockey culture, punctuate the game and make the goal an event that is sonic first.

Where the whole appeal lies is in managing a franchise over time in Be A GM, doubled by a personal career in Be A Pro stretching across seasons. Online play renews the competitive stakes without respite. This thickness of simulation, true to North American hockey, founds a longevity firmly settled among fans.
An ice hockey simulation from EA Sports, NHL 10 enriches the physical play with analogue stick fights, battles along the boards and an expanded Be a Pro mode. The puck control, the fluidity and the depth of the simulation appeal to fans of realistic ice play. The absence of roster updates and the closure of online servers weigh. An excellent period hockey for fans of demanding sports simulation and nostalgics of the NHL series on this generation.
