Sega/Visual Concepts ice hockey. NHL rosters, polished TV presentation, sim gameplay. Serious NHL EA alternative, more authentic. The GameCube version trails PS2/Xbox.

Is NHL 2K3 still worth playing in 2026?

Sega's hockey effort, NHL 2K3 aimed for a more simulation-leaning approach than its rivals, with a franchise mode solid for the time. The trouble is that this measured direction hasn't held up well, between stiff skating, dated AI and an austere presentation. Local multiplayer remains a fine excuse for a few matches among friends, but the solo experience has lost its pull. Mainly worth it for nostalgic hockey diehards or completists of the Sega catalogue.
