A pull-back toy car racer from Takara, descended from Japan's Choro Q franchise. Miniature circuits, deep vehicle customisation and a very accessible arcade feel. Pleasant in multiplayer, more limited solo, but the endearing world remains its calling card.

Collector interest

The European Penny Racers carries Takara's Japanese Choro Q franchise under a renamed banner, a line little known outside Japan and thus a niche draw for fans of coin-based mini-car racers. The PAL pressing is scarcer than the US one, and its CIB value owes more to limited distribution than to strong demand. Genuine appeal is mostly for Choro Q lineage collectors and light arcade-racing enthusiasts.

Is Penny Racers still worth playing in 2026?

A racing game from Takara, Penny Racers pits small coin operated toy cars against each other on colourful isometric miniature tracks, with a clever system where you bet and win the opponent's parts. The snappy driving, the vehicle customisation and the good natured tone give a definite charm to an accessible kart, especially in multiplayer. The peculiar handling and the modest production take adjusting. For a retro kart fan, someone curious about an original concept or a player after relaxed racing, the title keeps a colourful, likeable appeal.
