Story
"Anecdotal"
The board and its grimacing star are carried over unchanged, and the visual contribution concentrates on everything surrounding the game: dialling screens, lists of connected opponents, result tables dressed in the series' colours. Seeing the franchise's round, childlike graphics applied to a matchmaking interface remains a curious object of its time.

Lining up four blobs of the same colour to set off devastating chains: feeling a cascade run wild remains one of competitive puzzling's great thrills. The sun adds bonus blobs that spice up the strategy and rebalance the duels. Colourful, sparkling and fiercely tense, this entry hooks from the first chain to the last, ideal in group versus.

Is Puyo Puyo Sun for SegaNet still worth playing in 2026?

An online version of Compile's puzzler, Puyo Puyo Sun for SegaNet adds the Sun Puyo that boost chains to the cult chaining combat, with a network mode via the SegaNet service, bold for the time. The strategic depth of chains, the snappy pace and the joy of versus stay excellent, faithful to Compile's craft. The original online infrastructure is gone and the title stayed in Japan. A historical curiosity for fans of competitive retro puzzling and Puyo Puyo.
