The Taikenban edition of Puyo Puyoon is the Japanese in-store demo by Compile, never sold commercially. Compile's last surge on Dreamcast before the Sega merger around the franchise.

Better with friends

A variant of the chain puzzler opened up to four, where the screen turns into a frantic melee of blobs and counterattacks. The competition quickly grows unpredictable: everyone slings garbage at everyone and tacit alliances form and break in a flash. Messy and merry, it favors laughs over seriousness and happily restarts for express rounds.

Is Puyo Puyoon still worth playing in 2026?

A port of the famous Puyo Puyon, this entry keeps the classic formula with a few mascot tweaks and a polished presentation. The Tsu system remains the foundation of modern rules and the strategic richness stays fully intact. The presentation is less flashy than Puyo Puyo Fever and the content more austere, but for anyone seeking the traditional Japanese combo puzzle, it is an excellent home version. Suited to purists and players hunting a pure school competitive challenge to master.
