Collector interest

A 3D rebirth of the R-Type shoot 'em up, praised for its Force system and polished aesthetic, held by fans as one of the genre's peaks on the console. Still common in the West, its interest lies in this excellence reputation rather than scarcity, the Japanese version being a bit less widespread. A prime piece for anyone wanting the best of the R-Type line in 32-bit.

Better with friends

A strikingly beautiful side-scrolling shooter where two players take turns taming demanding levels and memorable organic bosses. The competition plays out in score and distance, in friendly rivalry where you comment on every dodge and every stinging death. Deep and gratifying, it rewards meticulous pattern learning and turns each attempt into a shared spectacle.

Is R-Type Delta still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 1998 on PS1, Irem's project carries the R-Type lineage forward with a fully three dimensional presentation while keeping the soul of the classical horizontal shooter intact. The Force, the famous detachable module, keeps its limpid readability and the Dose system adds a welcome tactical layer. The towering bosses, the biomechanical architecture and Kazuhito Yoshioka's score still hold. The firm difficulty demands practice. Recommended today for fans of horizontal shoot 'em ups, for Irem devotees and for PS1 collectors curious about an underrated classic of the genre.
