Technically impressive Ubi Soft 2D platformer featuring a character with no arms or legs. Inventive level design, well-paced progressive difficulty. Visually enchanting, memorable music. One of the best cross-platform platformers of the era.

Hand-painted settings of teeming richness, a hero of disconnected limbs and dazzling colours: the game unfurls a 2D enchantment of rare beauty. The softness of the backgrounds and the inventiveness of the design overflow with charm. This art direction, refined and warm, stands as a peak of the 2D platformer.

European PAL Saturn edition of Rayman, distributed by Ubisoft in December 1995 as the 1S launch run, the Saturn version of the Ubisoft platformer whose Michel Ancel animation set the aesthetic codes of the entire franchise. Ubisoft Europe run was broad as a launch title, the European jewel case is fragile, and the Saturn conversion maintains an Ubisoft rendering consistent with the first impressions. A PAL 1S identified clean complete copy with intact manual remains an identifiable landmark of the European Saturn launch.

Is Rayman still worth playing in 2026?

A 2D platformer by Ubisoft, Rayman offers a colourful adventure where the hero without arms or legs sets off to free his world from the forces of evil. The absolutely sublime cartoon art direction, precise handling and progressive difficulty make it an absolute 2D platformer reference on Saturn. For anyone fond of classic 2D platformers or seeking an unmissable Ubisoft classic, an absolutely essential recommendation today still without the slightest hesitation on the Sega machine for all genre fans truly here indeed.
