An underrated gem

From Julian Gollop, the father of XCOM, this turn-based tactical delivers lean, ruthless strategy on the smallest of screens. Its austerity and niche theme denied it success despite genuine depth. Fans of cerebral guerrilla warfare and carefully plotted moves will recognize the hand of a master of the genre.

Is Rebelstar - Tactical Command still worth playing in 2026?

Turn-based strategy by Julian Gollop, the creator of X-COM, Rebelstar Tactical Command offers demanding tactical clashes where positioning, cover and action-point management make the difference. The depth of the system and its author's game-design legacy make it a real niche gem, despite an austere presentation and a conventional sci-fi story. Access is rough for the uninitiated. A choice pick for fans of cerebral, demanding turn-based tactics.
