Resident Evil Outbreak dares online co-op in Raccoon City. Group survival horror, bite-sized scenarios and suffocating atmosphere. The online side aged, but the ambition still impresses.

The art direction leaves the overtrained heroes for ordinary civilians caught in the trap. Eight everyday residents of Raccoon City, a waitress, a doctor, a plumber, try to survive in public places turned deadly: a smoky bar, an overrun hospital, invaded streets and a subway. The horror here is born of the everyday overturned, these familiar settings where the city collapses around people like any other.
The music espouses the characters' internal countdown. Each carries a virus gauge that climbs relentlessly, and the sound design conveys this contamination: amplified heartbeats, breath growing heavier, pads ever more troubled as the transformation nears. The sound does not only signal the threat around oneself, it lets one hear the death gaining from within.

Resident Evil - Outbreak (PS2) price, value & rarity
Capcom's first online survival-horror, Outbreak offered a co-op mode tied to PS2 servers long since shut down, leaving it a curiosity frozen in its era. The multilingual European PAL release stays affordable loose while sealed prices climb sharply, as few new copies survived. Its collecting appeal rests on this milestone status for console online play and on its episodic re-staging of Raccoon City's fall.
Is Resident Evil - Outbreak still worth playing in 2026?
A survival horror game from Capcom, Resident Evil - Outbreak transposes the Raccoon City epidemic into an experience designed for online cooperation, where ordinary survivors try to escape the infested city by managing resources, infection and mutual aid between teammates. The horror atmosphere faithful to the series, the innovative cooperative dimension and the tension of survival appeal to fans of the genre. The end of the online servers and a dated artificial intelligence bound the experience today. For a survival horror fan or a Resident Evil fan, the title keeps a preserved atmosphere and tension, in a dated edition.
