Technos enlarges its fighters and refines their animations: the Lee brothers gain intermediate poses, reactions to blows taken, a heavier physicality that makes every exchange readable. The urban settings, warehouses, alleys, a helicopter, are drawn with more planes than before, which finally gives the city depth.
The soundtrack leaves behind the dry rhythms of earlier instalments for better constructed pieces: round bass, synthetic guitars, detailed percussion and a few frankly melodic themes. The first level piece takes the series' historic motif and arranges it, a gesture of loyalty that regulars recognise at once.

Return of Double Dragon is the Japanese version of Super Double Dragon, more complete and better finished than its Western counterpart, sometimes cut at release. Billy and Jimmy Lee chain varied striking techniques through urban stages, with richer handling than the NES entries. Period stiffness and uneven pacing betray its age, but the joy of brawling endures, especially in two-player. For fans of retro beat-em-ups, it is a choice version well worth discovering today.
