Nippon Ichi draws an unashamed fairy tale: rounded sprites, puffed dresses, sugar castles and pastel forests that look cut from wallpaper. The recruitable puppets, each with its own small silhouette and dominant colour, fill the battle grid like a toy box tipped out onto the living room rug.
Cornet talks to puppets and dreams of a prince, which nobody around her takes seriously. When the witch Marjoly carries Ferdinand off, the girl sets out to get him back with her puppet Kururu as her only army. The story is told in songs, dubbed for the American release, and carries its musical comedy innocence all the way through.
