Rise of the Robots inherits the impressive marketing of its 16 bit originals, but the Game Gear version shares the same flaws: stiff combat, few moves, predictable AI. The metallic sprites hold up visually without masking shallow gameplay. More a technical curiosity than an enjoyable fighter.

The US release is markedly scarcer boxed than its PAL twin: the NTSC run was more cautious after the game's frosty reception, and complete or sealed copies command sums wildly out of step with the game itself. The loose cart is trivial, but the complete American box drives a value set by survival rarity rather than demand. A niche piece for anyone documenting the North American collapse of a heavily oversold title.
