Rogue Legacy 2 review
A lineage of heirs each unlike the last comes fully into its own here: varied classes and inherited traits genuinely reshape how you approach every run. The snappy two-dimensional combat boasts exemplary clarity, and the platforming gains markedly in precision over the first game. Permanent upgrades ease the climb without ever dissolving the tension. The more hand-drawn style will split pixel loyalists, but the balance of challenge and progression remains a model.
Every death spawns an heir with sometimes absurd traits, and that's where the magic kicks in: you lose a character but keep the upgrades, so the regenerated castle grows a little less terrifying with each attempt. Snappy combat and permanent progression turn failure into fuel, run after run.
Each death hands the torch to a fresh heir with their own quirks, and the gold you bank permanently upgrades the manor: you fail, yet you always advance. Unlockable classes, sharply distinct weapons and endlessly reshuffled castles make every descent a new experiment. Restarting takes three seconds, which makes "one more run" hard to resist. The pull endures thanks to that blend of twitchy action and meta-progression. Still, hunting the ideal build can stretch sessions longer than you planned.
