Sakura Taisen puzzle spin-off in the universe of beloved characters. Columns revisited with the Hanagumi members. No interest for those unfamiliar with the series, but a pleasant bonus for fans. Decent gameplay without being exceptional.

Is Sakura Taisen - Hanagumi Taisen Columns still worth playing in 2026?

A Columns spin-off in Sakura Wars colors, Hanagumi Taisen Columns carries the gem-aligning mechanic of the Columns series, adding characters, special attacks and a versus mode from Sega's cult franchise. The charm of the cast, the versus mode and the fan service appeal to fans, in a snappy, accessible puzzler. The language barrier barely hinders such a visual puzzle. A likable pick for fans of competitive retro puzzling and Sakura Wars.
