Phantasy Star Generation-2 remasters the second entry with love. Intense story, cruel dungeons and a fresh look and sound. A JRPG classic the PS2 polishes beautifully.

Volume 17 of Sega Ages 2500, a 3D-rebuilt remake of Phantasy Star II that revives a foundational Mega Drive RPG for the Japanese market alone. Its appeal lies in this official treatment of a genre milestone and the particular standing of the line's Phantasy Star volumes, prized by saga fans. An import target for Sega RPG collectors and role-playing archaeology.
Is Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 17 - Phantasy Star Generation-2 still worth playing in 2026?
Released in 2005 on PS2 in the Sega Ages collection, Sega's remake of the 1989 Phantasy Star II reinterprets one of the founding RPGs of video game science fiction with a modernised production and an eased interface. The story, dark and ambitious for its time, and the exploration of the Algol system keep a strong historical character. The turn based combat and the structure stay faithful to the original, which implies a certain harshness. The modernisation stays measured. A precious piece for fans of retro RPGs and for those curious about a milestone of the genre played in a more comfortable version.
