Golden Axe Sega Ages remasters the cult fantasy brawler. Three heroes, iconic creatures and devastating magic. Short but fiercely effective, best in two-player.

Description
A Sega and 3D Ages beat'em up released in 2004, the fifth Sega Ages 2500 volume. A recreation of Golden Axe (1989), a Sega classic heroic fantasy arcade beat'em up where Ax-Battler, Tyris-Flare and Gilius-Thunderhead ride dragons and fight hordes of barbarians. Faithful modern 3D overhaul, a pillar niche of retro beat'em ups.

Is Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 5 - Golden Axe still worth playing in 2026?

A 3D remake by 3D Ages of Sega's heroic fantasy beat 'em up, this volume replays the adventure of Golden Axe with its three avenging heroes, its fire-breathing mounts and its journey to Death Adder, in settings reworked in 3D. The cooperative catharsis, the devastating magic and the arcade spirit stay enjoyable in two player. The short structure, the slightly stiff handling and the Japan exclusivity weigh on it. A likeable reworking for fans of retro beat 'em ups and of the Sega legacy.
