Sengoku Basara launches Capcom's wild Sengoku branch. Exuberant action, stylish heroes and rock-show staging. Short but explosively energetic, like a living manga.

Description
A Capcom action game released in 2005, the first entry in the Sengoku Basara franchise in Japan (later released in the West as Devil Kings, recut and censored). A samurai beat'em up with caricatural exaggerated versions of Sengoku Jidai figures (six-katana Date Masamune, Sanada Yukimura). Ultra-stylish combat, over-the-top anime aesthetics.

Is Sengoku Basara still worth playing in 2026?

A frantic action game from Capcom, Sengoku Basara offers a supercharged, stylised reading of the Sengoku era, where charismatic heroes mow down hordes of enemies with outsized moves and an assumed sense of spectacle. Snappier and more flamboyant than classic musou, the title bets everything on flair, staging and immediate fun. The repetition and a certain lack of depth weigh on it. A good action game for fans of stylish catharsis and a pop reading of feudal Japanese history.
