Shadows of the Damned is a Suda51 and Shinji Mikami horror TPS with Garcia Hotspur in Hell to save his girlfriend. Offset gory humour, memorable Garcia/Johnson duo, solid TPS gameplay. Niche but deliciously mad.

An action horror from Grasshopper Manufacture, the fruit of a collaboration between Suda51, Shinji Mikami and Akira Yamaoka, Shadows of the Damned follows a demon hunter descended into hell to save his beloved, armed with a living, talkative gun. The bawdy humour, the wild gothic art direction and the light system driving back the darkness make it an offbeat, striking experience. The repetitive structure and an uneven production temper the whole. A good game for fans of atypical action and bold Japanese productions on PS3.
