Devil Summoner 2 Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon refines the formula. Punchier action, demons to summon and a more mature plot. The best version of the occult detective on PS2.

Collector interest

The US sequel to Devil Summoner Raidou, an Atlus action RPG released very late in the PS2's life, just before the shift to the next generation. Its appeal lies in this late, restricted run on a machine running out, placing the complete copy among the hardest Atlus PS2 titles to track down in the United States. A sought target for demanding SMT collectors.

An underrated gem

This sequel fixes almost every flaw of the first Raidou: smoother combat, better-integrated demons and a more gripping investigation in its bewitching Taishō Japan. Released very late in the console's life, it escaped most players. A refined, elegant action-RPG for anyone who loves polished occult worlds and retro moods.

A questionable morality

A detective from the roaring years who cracks his cases by unleashing demons on his opponents has a decidedly expedient approach to policing. You capture these spirits, file them away in tubes and recall them to battle like simple tools, all in the name of public order. The retro elegance smooths over this forced taming of the supernatural without a hitch.

Is Shin Megami Tensei - Devil Summoner 2 - Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2008 on PS2, Atlus' project extends the adventures of the summoner detective Raidou Kuzunoha in Taisho era Japan, with a more ambitious plot around a curse and a sprawling conspiracy. The real time combat gains fluidity and demon fusion options, correcting several clumsy points of the first entry. The bewitching retro atmosphere, the investigation and the deadpan humour forge a lasting charm. A few dungeons stay a little repetitive. A more accomplished and accessible sequel, recommended for fans of SMT and of Japanese historical mystery tinged with the occult.
